“I want to make people reflect, to stir up their critical sense. In my mind, art cures individual problems, but also has a social function. You give yourself over to it or you remain skeptical. There is the search for the aesthetic, but it’s not essential. I think of my works more as psychological research rather than an aesthetic proposal. I investigate things which have left an indelible impression on me; things that make me question the real meaning of my own existence and of life itself. My life has lead me to take a committed position within my art and this ethic also nourishes my work. The iconography of my work reaches back through time and consciousness, memory by memory…never relinquishing autobiographical intimacy.”
